Herbert J. Sprengel Award
For the best design project by
a Junior in General Engineering.
Herbert
Sprengel received his B.S. in 1936 in Engineering Physics
and an M.S. in Physics in 1937, both from the University
of Illinois. Herb taught at the Illinois Institute of Technology
during the Second World War, as well as working with General
Electric.
In
1946 he went to Continental X-Ray Corporation in Chicago
where he started as factory manager and rose to Secretary-Treasurer
and Manager of Manufacturing and Engineering. In 1951, he
returned to the General Electric Corporation.
In
1968. Herbert joined the Department of General Engineering.
He taught GE 103, 104 and 242, drawing upon his vast experience
to enrich these courses. He retired in 1978 and now resides
in Florida.
